How to Create Categories and Child Categories - Taxable and Enable Auto Markdown

Create your main categories and child categories with a click of a button. The attributes can be included if needed for your website. For example: “style”, “material” (Note: color, size, and condition are already included on the variants).

Next, we recommend using measurements especially for apparel and products you want your customers to see its measurements on your website.

Image Options are recommendations to review on the item entry level not on your website. An example would be “front”, “back”, “label” etc.

Last for weight, it’s highly recommended so it eliminates the need for you to enter the weight on each item while doing the item entry.

If items from that category are going to be taxable, you should check the “Taxable?

Enable Auto Markdown” – when your store is set to have a markdown on prices and you want the category to allow auto markdown, check this option.

However, if your store is going to have a child category (subcategory, lower category), we recommend including the attributes, measurements, image options, weight on the lowest categories.

Note: We strongly recommend to create the final names for your categories before you start the item entry process. If you need to change the category name on a later date, please make sure your products are saved into the new categories and the new name is included on Shopify.
